Project Overview

This Safe Routes to School project will make it safer and easier for kids to walk and bike to school by adding sidewalks and improving the intersections along 35th Ave SW, from SW 100th to SW 106th streets near Arbor Heights Elementary.

In addition to the new and widened sidewalks, project improvements will include:

  • A new parking strip along the west side of 35th Ave SW
  • Curb bulbs to shorten the crossing distance for people walking
  • ADA-compliant curb ramps for better accessibility
  • A new stormwater and detention system between SW 104th and SW 106th streets

Similar projects are being constructed at 31 Seattle schools this year. Projects include new crosswalks, new sidewalks, new signals, and traffic calming on the walking routes to school.
