Home Zone: Lake City

What's Happening Now?

Based on community feedback, we are testing temporary traffic diverters to reduce the amount of cut-through traffic in the area.

These temporary barriers encourage people driving to use main streets instead of cutting through residential streets. While these changes will make the neighborhood safer for pedestrians and cyclists, they will change how you drive in and out of your neighborhood.

What to Expect

In early spring 2026, we will install temporary barriers at two intersections:

  • NE 123rd St and 28th Ave NE
  • NE 123rd St and Hiram Pl NE

We will monitor traffic patterns while these barriers are in place. In late spring 2026, we will review how the diverters are working and gather your feedback. Based on what we learn together, we will decide whether to build permanent diverters in 2027. We also plan to install permanent traffic calming measures, like speed humps or street narrowing, in 2027 regardless of the final decision on diverters.

Diverters stop through traffic at NE 123rd St and 28th Ave NE and NE 123rd St and Hiram Pl NE.
Timeline

  • Spring to Summer 2026: Test temporary traffic diverters.
  • Spring 2026 to Summer 2026: Gather community feedback.
  • Summer 2026: We create the final Home Zone plan, including potential permanent traffic diverters.
  • 2027: Construct the permanent Home Zone projects.
