Queen Anne Avenue North Parking and Curbspace Review

Updated March 2026

Project Overview

In 2026-2027, we are evaluating on-street parking and loading on Upper Queen Anne, along Queen Anne Ave N. Our goal is to understand how parking, loading, and other curbside uses are working today and identify ways to improve access for businesses, customers, visitors, and nearby residents.

Upper Queen Anne at Queen Anne Ave is a busy business district with many ways for customers and employees to get there – whether walking, biking or by bus. At the same time, many people arrive by car. We want to make sure people who drive can find a parking space. We also want to make sure delivery drivers and services like garbage pickup can use the curb when they need to.

SDOT last reviewed parking in Upper Queen Anne in 2008. Since then, the neighborhood—and Seattle overall—has changed with new housing and businesses. Travel patterns have also shifted. More people now work from home and visit businesses during the day, new street cafes provide outdoor dining space, and food delivery services have increased. These changes have increased demand for parking and loading.

As a result, SDOT is reviewing how parking and loading are working today so we can plan ahead and make improvements to better meet the area’s needs.

SDOT will begin this review of parking and loading in Upper Queen Anne in Spring 2026.

How We Will Study Curbspace

In spring 2026, SDOT will study how parking and loading spaces are used on and near Queen Anne Ave N from W Galer St to W McGraw St. We will also study along 1st Ave N from Boston St to Crockett St.

We will also conduct in-person intercept surveys. You may see SDOT staff in the area stopping visitors to ask them short questions. The survey will help us understand travel patterns, and if they drove, what their parking experience was like. In summer 2026, we will begin broader outreach to gather feedback from the community.

Community Outreach

In summer 2026, we will connect with the community, including visitors, businesses, employees, and nearby residents. We are developing our plan for outreach now. We will share  updates soon about ways the community can participate. Outreach may include surveys, meetings, drop-in sessions, and attending events like the Queen Anne farmers markets. We will share updates about future outreach events on this website.

During outreach we will:

  • Share results from the parking study and intercept surveys
  • Learn about people’s parking experiences and needs
  • Ask for input on how parking and loading could work better

Possible Changes

Using what we learn from data and community feedback, SDOT will develop a draft plan for changes in fall 2026 and share them with the community for your feedback. We will then update the plan per your feedback and finalize a plan for installation. Any changes would be installed in early 2027.

Changes that we plan to consider may include:

  • Updated parking time limits
  • Paid parking
  • Short-term pickup and drop-off spaces
  • Loading zones for deliveries
  • Accessible parking spaces for people with disabilities
  • Intersection daylighting to improve safety and visibility
