Stone Way N Safety Improvements

Updated October 14, 2026

What's Happening Now?

We're excited to begin construction on N 36th St, N 38th St, and N Allen Pl this October! We recently completed the new marked crosswalk at N 36th St and more construction is  scheduled for the weekend of October 17, but this schedule may change due to weather. Parking will be restricted near the work zone during construction.

We expect to build N 41st St and N 42nd St in 2027.

Project Overview

We’re making safety and accessibility improvements along Stone Way N between N Allen Pl and N 36th St. These changes will increase visibility and create safer and more comfortable crossings for people walking, rolling, and biking.

Project elements include:

  • New marked crosswalks
  • Intersection visibility improvements
    • This means we will enforce "No Parking" laws near intersections and crosswalks by adding pavement paint and signage.
  • Pedestrian islands
  • Median islands
  • Flashing pedestrian crossing signs
  • New bike markings

What to expect during construction

We expect to build this project in 2026. During construction, you can expect:

  • Crews working from 7 AM to 5 PM, usually on weekdays but sometimes on weekends
  • Noise, vibration, dust, and debris
  • “No Parking” signs at least 72 hours before construction starts
  • Construction materials and parking impacts near the work sites
  • Crosswalk and sidewalk closures, and detours for people walking and biking
  • Temporary traffic lane changes
  • Changes in construction schedules due to weather or the availability of work crews and/or materials
