Project Overview

We are improving sidewalks along Greenwood Ave N between N 112th St to N117th ST and N 134th St to N 137th St. We are adding new sidewalks, curbs, planting strips, pedestrian signal upgrades, and curb ramps that meet ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) standards. This project will include civil work for a future half signal installation at N 134th Street. The future half signal will provide safer and more accessible connections for the community to access transit along Greenwood Ave N.

Parking lanes within the project area will be repaved and new curb and gutter will be installed along the new sidewalk. These improvements will make it easier for residents to walk, roll, and access schools, businesses, and other destinations. By creating safer and more accessible routes, we’re connecting the community and promoting active travel options for people of all ages and abilities.

Project Background

The Greenwood Ave N Sidewalk Improvements Project represents the final chapter in a remarkable, years-long effort to transform Greenwood Ave N into a safer, more accessible corridor for everyone. Before annexation into the City of Seattle, much of Greenwood Ave N was built without sidewalks, leaving gaps in safety and connectivity.

Since 2009, we’ve been working to close these gaps, enhancing accessibility, and creating safer routes for pedestrians, cyclists, and transit riders. This final phase marks the culmination of years of planning and dedication to connecting community destinations, schools, and businesses. This project is more than a set of improvements—it's a celebration of progress, collaboration, and a shared vision for a healthier, more accessible Greenwood community.

Project Schedule

Design: After early outreach through the Neighborhood Greenways program, the Greenwood Sidewalks Project became a standalone initiative in 2024 with dedicated funding. We're excited to resume design work in spring 2025.

Construction: Construction is scheduled to begin as soon as Mid-July 2026.

Please note, construction schedules are subject to change based on crew and material availability.
