Thank you for joining us at the open house on February 12 to learn more about the Roosevelt & Pinehurst Way NE Paving and Safety Project! We appreciate your time and valuable input as we continue working to improve safety and mobility for all who use this corridor. We will review the feedback and refine the design, and share updated plans in the coming months and continue engaging with the community as the project progresses.
Project Overview
We are repaving Roosevelt Way NE and Pinehurst Way NE between NE 92nd St and 15th Ave NE to extend the life of the roadway by 10 to 20 years. Along with resurfacing the asphalt, we will be making important infrastructure upgrades, such as fixing the road base, installing curb ramps that meet ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) standards, and improving drainage systems.
In addition to restoring the infrastructure, the project will also look for ways to improve facilities for different types of transportation, in line with the Complete Streets policy. Potential upgrades may include new crosswalks, upgraded bike lanes, and improved bus stops. These changes aim to make the area safer and more accessible for all.
Project Background
As part of Seattle’s ongoing pavement preservation strategy, this project focuses on maintaining critical infrastructure while integrating safety improvements. The roadway has experienced wear and tear, impacting vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle travel. By resurfacing and repairing the road, we aim to prevent further damage and lower long-term maintenance costs.
The project builds on previous improvements at the Pinehurst Way NE and NE 117th St intersection, enhancing mobility for residents and improving access to Hazel Wolf K-8 School. By addressing safety and connectivity along this corridor, SDOT is working to meet the goals outlined in the Seattle Transportation Plan (STP) and Vision Zero Action Plan.

Project Schedule
Design began in winter 2024 and is scheduled for completion in spring of 2026. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027.
Funding
The project is partially funded by an $8.7 million Federal Highway Administration grant.
