Seattle SMART Grant Digital Commercial Vehicle Permit Project: Maps and Data

Project Area Digital Curb Inventory

A key goal of the SMART Grant Digital Commercial Vehicle Project is to test out the capabilities of the open-source and publicly accessible, Curb Data Specification (CDS) managed by the Open Mobility Foundation (OMF). For our project, CurbIQ has created a web map of our project area and an application programming interface (API) feed of curb zones and policies, all in CDS format. The API allows curb information to be published digitally in a structured way that’s designed for computer programs to access. Please take a look and let us know what you think!
(Note, this project and the data provided in the links below are a work in progress and may include errors. Your feedback will help us improve this product!)

Project Area Web Map

This mapping tool shows the locations of different types of curb space such as load zones (commercial, passenger, standard), paid parking, and the times these spaces are available for use in the project area. The map also shows real-time availability of 25 commercial vehicle load zones. Be sure to click through the different filters and other options to get detailed information!

Curb Data Specification Curbs and Curb Policy API Endpoints

For more advanced users looking to access the more granular data behind the web map, we have provided an API to access SDOT’s curb regulations and parking space inventory in a machine-readable way. The API is primarily written in CDS format to ensure the data is compatible with other CDS users around the world. Where it differs from CDS, CurbIQ has noted in their API documentation link below.

API Access Token – Although the API is publicly available, we are requiring interested users request a token from CurbIQ before using. To ensure a positive user experience, we are requiring API access tokens during the testing period.

Curbs (zones) - Contains objects of curb parking zone information in the project area. This includes information such as location of zone, number of spaces, zone length, street name, etc.

Policies - Contains policy objects of rules for how curb zones are regulated. Each Curb Zone's regulations are defined by a combination of multiple Policy objects. Querying Curb Policies can provide the full set of policies.

API Documentation - Documentation on how to use the APIs. This includes detailed information on how to authenticate, make requests, set query parameters, and better understand the data found within the API.

Events API – This Events API endpoint allows users to access real-time and historic parking event data from the 25 commercial vehicle load zones in the project area.
