Downtown Traffic Control Zone Permits
The Downtown Traffic Control Zone is an area described in Seattle Municipal Code (SMC) 11.14.165 that limits operations of vehicles meeting certain dimensions within the Downtown Traffic Control Zone.
The Downtown Traffic Control Zone Permit allows vehicles 30 to 75 feet long (note: single-unit trucks are limited to 50 feet in length), 14 feet or less tall, and 8.5 feet or less wide to operate within the Downtown Traffic Control Zone, with specific conditions that shall be followed.
If your vehicle meets these size requirements:
- A permit is needed Monday through Friday, 9AM - 3PM and all day Saturday.
- No permit is needed Monday through Friday, 7 PM - 6AM and on Sundays.
- No vehicles meeting these dimensions are allowed in this zone Monday through Friday from 6AM - 9AM and from 3PM - 7PM.
Oversized (Over Dimensional) Vehicles:
Oversized vehicles are defined as being larger than one of these dimensions: 75 feet long (50 feet long for single-unit trucks), 14 feet tall, or 8.5 feet wide. Within the Downtown Traffic Control Zone, an oversized vehicle and load permit and/or a Validation Number are required from 7PM – 6AM.
