15th Ave NW and NW 83rd St Pedestrian Safety Enhancements

Updated: July 13, 2023

What's happening now?

We're happy to announce that the construction for the 15th Ave NW and NW 83rd Street Project will begin during the week of July 17th. The construction will last for about four months, and it will be done in different stages. Here's what you can expect:

  1. Signal Crews: The first step is for the signal crews to work on the new traffic signal. Luckily, their work won't affect the traffic much because they won't be crossing the curb line. We will need to trench across the west side of 83rd to complete the electrical work. During this time, there will be a temporary closure, but don't worry, we will let everyone know in advance and put up signs to show you an alternate route. The electrical work will take around two months to finish.
  2. Construction Contractor: Once the signal is done, the construction contractor will take over for about a month and a half to complete all the project's concrete restoration work.

Here's what you should know during the construction:

  • Work Hours: The construction will take place from Monday to Friday, starting at 7 AM and ending at 4 PM.
  • Lane Shifts: Sometimes, during work hours, you may experience changes in the lanes you can use. It's important to drive safely and be cautious when passing through the construction area.
  • Equipment and Materials: You may notice temporary staging areas for equipment and materials near the work site on 83rd St.
  • Dust, Noise, and Vibration: Construction work can create dust, noise, and vibration. So, expect some of that during this time.
  • Temporary Detours: There will be temporary detours, especially during the concrete restoration work. However, access to driveways, businesses, and residences will be maintained, so you'll still be able to reach your destination.

We want to thank everyone who took part in the community prioritization process for this Neighborhood Street Fund project. Your input has been invaluable in making this project a reality!
