N 130TH St Vision Zero Safety Corridor

Updated: April 12, 2023

What's Happening Now?

We are currently in the early design phase.

We are currently refining the final designs for improvements along the corridor while coordinating with partner agencies regarding potential east and west connection opportunities. SDOT will begin informational outreach to the neighborhoods surrounding N 130th St once coordination is finalized. The project may be delayed to late-2023/mid-2024 due to external project coordination and concurrence with regional modeling interests.

Project overview

N 130th St corridor will undergo several changes to improve access and safety for all roadway users. As part of the Vision Zero program, Seattle is committed to ending traffic deaths and serious injuries on its streets by 2030. Vision Zero was launched in 2015 to invest in designing a safer system for City streets and roads. The cross section at N 130th St currently has four driving lanes with a sidewalk on each side of the road and will be modified into two through-lanes. Speed limit and traffic signals will also be changed to increase the safety of the street.

N 130th St corridor mobility and roadway safety improvements include:

Speed limit of N 130th St will be reduced to 25 miles per hour.  Lower vehicle speeds means less change of injury or death in the event of a collision.

Reconfiguration from four through lanes to two through lanes with a center turn lane.  Simplifies vehicle left turns and reduces the amount of backups caused by queueing vehicles.

Rebuild of the Meridian Ave N traffic signal.  Standardization of infrastructure to improve visibility and allow for additional signal control.

Left turn phasing at Meridian, Ashworth, and Stone traffic signals.
