Street Tree Planting Study

Street trees are essential for reaching the City of Seattle’s 30% tree canopy goal. Street trees managed by SDOT are planted in public areas, typically between the sidewalk and the road.

The SDOT Street Tree Planning Study explores street tree planting in four census tracts identified as high priority in the city's Race and Social Equity Index. Located in Capitol Hill/Olive Way, SODO, South Park, and Roxhill, these tracts also have less than 25% existing tree canopy and face unique environmental and social challenges.

More About the Study

Funds for this project were provided by the State of Washington Department of Natural Resources Urban and Community Forestry Program. The study seeks to gather input from high-priority census tracts about street trees, identify concerns and assess support for future planting efforts.

At the end of the study, the project team will produce four reports summarizing public feedback and recommending future outreach strategies to enhance future tree planting programs.
