Vehicle License Fee Rebate

UPDATE (7/02/2021): The Vehicle Licensing Fee Rebate (VLFR) program is ending July 2021. The last day to submit a rebate request on 2020 car tab renewals was June 30, 2021. We will not process VLFR applications received after June 30, 2021. No Seattle vehicle license fee rebates will be issued on 2021 car tab renewals.

In 2014, City of Seattle voters approved a car tab increase to pay for improved transit service. Car tabs, also known as Vehicle License Fees, increased to $80 per vehicle on June 1, 2015. Income-qualified vehicle owners with a car registered in Seattle were also eligible to receive a $20 rebate in the form of a check through the $20 Vehicle License Fee Rebate (VLFR) program. The legislation allowing for the car tab increase expired on December 31, 2020.
