Delridge Neighborhood Greenway Safe Connections

Updated: December 27, 2019

What's happening now?

We are coordinating improvements on SW Andover St and at the intersection of SW Andover St and Delridge Way SW with the RapidRide H project, which is currently at the 90% design milestone and anticipates breaking ground in 2020. This coordination will allow us to build improvements faster and reduce construction impacts on the neighborhood.

We are also designing a railing to be installed on the onramp from Delridge Way SW to the West Seattle Bridge. This component of the project is on-schedule for construction in 2021.

If you have comments on the project concepts, there are several ways to submit your feedback:

  • Send an email directly to the project email address.
  • Call 206-733-9361. When leaving a voicemail, be sure to state which project you're calling about and whether you'd like a return call from our team.
  • Review project concepts and submit your feedback via a comment form at participating libraries and community centers (click here to find a library or community center near you). Comment forms are available in English, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Somali and Vietnamese.  To request comment forms in other languages or other reasonable accommodations or assistance, please contact us at: NSF@seattle.gov or 206-733-9361

The comment period will be open until January 31, 2020.

Project Overview

This project is a combination of two community proposals to enhance the connection between the Delridge Neighborhood Greenway and the West Seattle Bridge Trail:

  • Improvements to SW Andover St between 26th Ave SW (Delridge Neighborhood Greenway) and Delridge Way SW, as well as the intersection of SW Andover St & Delridge Way SW. These include protected bike lanes, green pavement markings, a new left turn pocket for people riding bikes, right turn on red restrictions, and other changes.
  • A new railing on the onramp from the Delridge Way SW to the West Seattle Bridge. This on-ramp hosts a multiuse trail that links to the West Seattle Bridge Trail, but it currently lacks a railing between the trail and traffic using the onramp. This project will include a new railing, trimming overgrown plants to increase the usable width of the trail, and spot pavement repairs.

Benefits

  • Enhance safety - Enhancements to SW Andover St will make travel more predictable and separate people biking from traffic. Installing the railing leading to the West Seattle Bridge Trail will further separate people walking and biking from traffic at a narrow point in the trail. These safety improvements help us make progress towards our Vision Zero goals of eliminating traffic fatalities and makes walking, biking, and taking transit more attractive and comfortable.
  • Strengthen connections - The route being improved by this project lies between two popular existing facilities - the Delridge Neighborhood Greenway and the West Seattle Bridge Trail. Improving the route between the two makes both facilities more useful to more people.

Design

Proposed improvements along SW Andover St to be installed as part of the Delridge Multimodal project. These include new protected bike lanes, green pavement markings, an a left turn pocket for bikes.
