Wedgwood to Roosevelt Neighborhood Greenway

Updated: March 23, 2020

What's Happening Now?

Thank you for providing feedback on the four decorated intersection ideas. Our second community survey closed on March 20th and we are currently reviewing your comments and ideas. These will be used to develop a final concept design in the spring.

Can I still drive through the decorative intersection?

Yes!  The decorative intersection will highlight the connection to the park, but will not restrict the way people drive on the street.

Have you done other projects like this?

Yes!  You can see pictures on our SDOT Flickr site.

Project Overview

The Wedgwood to Roosevelt Neighborhood Greenway will provide a safer connection for people walking and biking between the Wedgwood Neighborhood Greenway (39th Ave NE) and the Roosevelt neighborhood. The planned neighborhood greenway connects residents to local schools, parks, and businesses as well as the citywide transportation network. The new neighborhood greenway will connect affordable, active transportation options for people of all ages and abilities.

Construction Schedule

Our project is scheduled for construction in 2020. Several nearby projects completed in 2019 or scheduled for construction over the next two years will bring additional transportation enhancements.

The schedule for 2019 includes a new crossing signal at 25th ave NE, a crossing improvement at 20th Ave NE, and a protected bike lane and neighborhood greenway at NE 70th St. The schedule for 2020 includes a new crossing signal at 35th Ave NE, a crossing improvement at 15th Ave NE, and construction on this neighborhood greenway. In 2021, the Roosevelt Light Rail Station will open.

What's a Neighborhood Greenway?

Neighborhood greenways are safer, calmer residential streets for you, your family, and neighbors. We make people walking and biking the priority.

Neighborhood greenways can include:

  • 20 mph speed limit signs
  • speed humps to calm traffic
  • stop signs for side streets crossing the neighborhood greenway
  • signs and pavement markings to help people find their way
  • easier crossings of busy streets with crosswalks, flashing beacons, or traffic signals

The Wedgwood to Roosevelt neighborhood greenway will enhance safe access for students walking and biking to Roosevelt High School and the Northeast Branch Seattle Public Library. The greenway will connect people between protected bike lanes, an existing neighborhood greenway, and the Burke Gilman Trail.
