Camp Long Building Stabilization and Pre-Design Study

Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) contracted with Diverse Earthworks through an emergency public works contract to stabilize the Camp Long Lodge Building after fire damage occurred in late 2024.

We are stabilizing the building, repairing the hole in the roof, reinstating electric power to climate controls, providing temporary shoring of masonry, repairing damaged structural framing and other work to prevent the building from further deterioration.  This work is being done to maintain the historic building for future use and to comply with Seattle Department of Construction & Inspections correction notice.

A predesign study is also underway. This study will determine the final funding needed to restore the building to an occupiable condition. To do so, damage to the building will need to be fully repaired. The building will also need to be brought up to current code standards.

SPR is working with our partners at Associated Recreation Council to maintain some of the programing that is run out of the facility including the Ropes Course and Summer Camps.  Electricity was restored to the portion of the cabins that had lost power. SPR is securing permitting to move a modular trailer on site to assist with programing.

Our current estimate is that the renovation construction would begin in 2031.

Budget

Funding for Stabilization: Insurance settlement

Funding for Renovation:  Remaining Insurance settlement funds will be utilized, and a pre-design study has already been initiated to assess building needs, including code conformance, with the anticipation of securing public and private funding for future repairs.

Project Schedule

Fire Damage Stabilization: 2024 – 2025

Pre-design Study: 2025 - 2026

Anticipated Site Impact

The lodge will remain closed.
