Fairmount Playground Softball Infield Conversion

Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) has begun planning to convert the Fairmount Park softball infield from clay/silt soil mix to synthetic turf. Our design consultant, D.A. Hogan is creating site plans for the project and assisting through construction.

The total budget for this project is $1.5 million, secured through the Real Estate Tax (REET) Capital Fund.

Completion: Late 2026/Early 2027
Project Description
This project aims to expand playing options for youth softball at Fairmount Playground and support safe, accessible, and quality play for users on a year-round basis, including during inclement weather. This project will convert the softball infield from clay/silt soil mix to synthetic turf, including updates to the dugouts and backstop, as well as pathway accessibility improvements.
The Fairmount Playground Softball Field will be closed during construction. SPR will work with our design team and athletic scheduling team to limit the impact on field users.
