Project Description

The current play equipment at Firehouse House Mini Park was installed in 1998. It was designed by the neighboring community in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation and paid for with Neighborhood Matching Funds, community labor and fundraising. The current play equipment has reached the end of its useful life and SPR is funding this project for play area renovation.

The scope of the project is to replace the play equipment and review and replace the trees and other assets as necessary inside the play area enclosure. The surrounding paving and walks connecting to the play area will be renovated to meet current accessibility standards. The existing lawn area as well as planting beds also need to be reviewed and improved to better meet user needs and SPR grounds maintenance and operations needs and goals.

The lawn needs to be renovated, along with the planting beds, particularly those in shaded areas, which will also require renovation and interplanting. Additionally, the picnic table on the lawn needs replacement. An assessment by SPR Urban Forestry indicates that no trees are in decline. SPR tree crew plans to incorporate three vine maples and some probable woodland plantings at this site.
