Big Day of Play is a celebration of Seattle's diversity. It encourages neighbors, communities and families to have fun, build relationships and be active together.
It's the day to play your way!

Presented by Seattle Parks and Recreation's Get Moving Initiative

Start: Lakewood Playground
End: Rainier Playfield

Rainier Playfield Mt. Baker Rowing and Sailing Center

Shuttles will run between Rainier Playfield & Mt. Baker Rowing and Sailing Center during the day.


2025 Event Information

Fun Run

The 2nd Annual, 1-mile Fun Run starts at Lakewood Playground and goes to Rainier Playfield.  Walkers welcome too!  All participants will receive a free swag bag.  Event starts at 11:30 am.

Rainier Community Center & Playfield Activities

Free hourly events held in 2 Gyms and 4 Zones on the Playfield, provided in cooperation with community groups. Details coming soon.

Mt. Baker Rowing & Sailing Center

Free water activities and sailboat rides, and a life jacket fitting and giveaway.

Fun Run (2025)

2nd Annual Fun Run

Join us for the SECOND annual Big Day of Play Fun Run, the hottest one-mile race open to all, in partnership with Citywide Athletics! We are bringing together participants of all ages and abilities to celebrate fitness and community.

Sign-up and you’ll kick off your Big Day of Play with this fun run starting at Lakewood Playground and winding down the scenic route along Genesee. When you cross the finish line you can enjoy a day filled with exciting activities, performances, and opportunities to connect with neighbors and local organizations. Don’t miss out on this energizing start to an unforgettable day!

Not a runner? Walking is certainly allowed to join in on the fun!

  • Race starts at 11:30 a.m.

  • Start Location: Lakewood Playground: 5013 S Angeline St, Seattle, WA 98118

After the race all runners will receive a swag bag filled with cool items to keep them refreshed post-run.

Tennis and Pickleball

Tennis And Pickleball Courts | 12-5 p.m.

Enjoy Instruction and Open Play Tennis and Pickleball games on the courts at Rainier Playfield from 12-5 p.m. All levels welcome!

Racket Giveaway | 2-2:30 p.m.

Stop by from 2-2:30 p.m. for our racket giveaway so you can keep playing after the Big Day of Play and we’ll see you at Seattle Parks and Recreation Tennis programs!

Big Day of Play is committed to connecting the community with opportunities from local organizations. Through these connections you can find interest groups you identify with, low-cost utilities, health and wellness information, and more.
