Mayfair Park Retaining Wall and Stair Replacement

Spring 2026

We have awarded the contract to W.S. Contractors. The contractor started in fall 2025.  
This project addresses major park elements in need of replacement. The project provides new stairs to lower play area (slide), renovation of retaining wall and rockery, new irrigation and electrical lines. 
Items left to complete:

  • New electrical cabinet 
  • Replace water fountain  
  • Replace electrical conduit in right of way, per City Light requirements  
  • Upper area planters  
  • Drainage  
  • Replace asphalt and concrete path 

Projected timeline for completion May/June ’26  
Phase 2  
Due to budget limitations the staircase down to Mayfair Ave was not part of this contract.

Budget

The Seattle Parks District provides $1,100,000 in funding for the planning, design, and construction.

Planning and Design: Complete
Permitting: Early 2025 - Fall 2025
Construction: October 2025 - Early 2026

Project Description 

Phase 1 
The project will replace the existing timber retaining walls, wood stairs, and wooden light poles/standards that have all reached the end of their usefulness. The project requires some paving repair and removal of a few trees that are either hazardous or need to be removed to accommodate the wall replacement.  
Phase 2 
Wood stairs will be replaced with new concrete steps with steel stringer staircases connecting landing down to Mayfair Ave.
