Updated: June 30, 2026
Summer 2026
Seattle Parks and Recreation is excited to move this project into the construction phase. We have hired L.W. Sundstrom Construction. The play area will close in August for construction. When we have more specific dates we will update this site.
We anticipate the new play area will open in early 2027.
This project includes accessibility improvements at the existing restroom and connecting pathways.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the public process. Comments and insights from the public helped the design consultant refine several site layouts and play equipment options. The planning, design and permitting process are complete. The nature-themed play area will maintain historical art elements. View the Preferred Concept Design

Project Description
This project aims to make site improvements to the play area located within the western half of the former Home of Good Shepherd property. The project also improves accessibility to the play area and restrooms.
Most components of the play area were constructed in the early 1980s, and revised in 2002, and some equipment was replaced through a Neighborhood Matching Fund project in 2011. Several elements/features within the play area, such as existing play equipment, art paving, play area ramps, custom-made v-slides, and rubber tiles need to be renovated or replaced.
Construction of both projects will be coordinated to minimize the length of closures.
