Updated: July 18, 2024

Summer 2024

Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is excited about a new community center in the South Lake Union neighborhood. The developer of the overall project that will house the community center has paused further design of the project.

SPR currently has a Schematic Design for the Community Center, continued design will restart in coordination with the overall project. More information about the Schematic design introduced at our third online open house in June 2021 can be found at the South Lake Union Community Center Schematic Design Report website at: slucc.infocommunity.org

Thank you to everyone who attended our previous public outreach events and for the feedback you provided. You can view the March 16 online meeting video here. You can find additional information at: slucc.infocommunity.org and summary documents of the online events below.

To better serve a diverse and rapidly growing community, Seattle Parks and Recreation will open a new community center in the South Lake Union neighborhood that we are currently calling the South Lake Union Community Center. It will be a private-public partnership project as the Community Center will be located within a private development project operated by Seattle Parks and Recreation.

The new facility will house spaces for activities such as fitness, art, and rooms for classes and events as well as a childcare service for young families.

Location

Corner of Mercer Street and Dexter Avenue North

Budget

The planning, design and interior buildout of the community center space is estimated to cost $9-$12M; planning and design are funded, but construction funding has not yet been identified.

Schedule
