Community Engagement Ambassadors

The Community Engagement Ambassador program offered by Seattle Parks and Recreation is a vital component of the department’s efforts to engage and involve the local community. Community Engagement Ambassadors, or CEAs, engage underrepresented Seattle residents and reduce barriers for them to access City programs and resources.

CEAs are trusted community leaders who bridge the gap between City services and underserved communities, utilizing the “power of touch” method, an inclusive engagement and outreach strategy that effectively reaches marginalized communities to increase awareness and participation in City resources, opportunities, and programs. SPR staff recruits and trains community members from identified vulnerable groups on culturally relevant engagement to provide outreach and technical support to their peers. By building awareness among hard-to-reach audiences about opportunities, services, and programs, they help to increase physical activity and health awareness within high health disparity populations, including people of color, immigrants and refugees, persons with disabilities, and LGBTQIA+ communities.

CEA Services Include: Translations, Interpretations, Data Gathering, Technical Support and Assistance (Internal and External), Facilitation of Community Focus Groups/Workshops, Inclusive Outreach and Engagement, Planning and Implementation of Programs, Special Events, and/or Athletic Activities.

Current Languages Available: Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin, Taishanese, Spanish and Tagalog.

If you would like to employ a Community Engagement Ambassador for your next event, please contact Deja'Nay Gilliam via email at dejanay.gilliam@seattle.gov.
