Project Partners
Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is partnering with Africatown Community Land Trust, The William Grose Center for Cultural Innovation and A Personal Point of View LLC on the Judkins Park Renovation Project. Each organization brings unique expertise to ensure the project is community-focused. By leveraging these partnerships, the project aims to maximize benefits to the community and each organization is committed to honoring the neighborhood’s history and prioritizing inclusivity in a community that has experienced redlining, displacement, and gentrification.
SPR is partnering with Africatown Community Land Trust (ACLT) to lead and facilitate community outreach and engagement for the project, prioritizing involvement from the Black community and historically underrepresented groups. Through ACLT’s William Grose Center for Cultural Innovation, the project will empower and foster innovation with local youth in the design process.
With the community at the forefront of the project, SPR is partnering with Community Leader and Judkins Park resident, Margo Jones, and her organization, A Personal Point of View, LLC. This partnership aims to further connect with the community, build trust, and conduct a codesign process representative of the community.
Together, SPR and its partners are working to remove these barriers and ensure Judkins Park becomes a place of belonging, equity, and enriched access for all.
Project Description
The project will renovate and expand the playground, spray park, and restrooms, constructing new play spaces with a focused commitment to preserving the park’s historical significance while advancing equity and accessibility.
During construction, the contractor will need to close a portion of the park. Seattle Parks and Recreation and the contractor hired for the project will work to minimize the impact on the neighborhood. Thank you for your understanding.
