Charlestown Park (48th and Charlestown Landbanked Site Park Development)
Updated: February 5, 2025
Early 2025
Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) purchased Charlestown Park to provide the community with access to open space with identified gaps across the city. The Seattle Park District funds will allow for developing this 33-acre parcel into a park. The park, located at 4801 SW Charlestown St., was put on hold during the pandemic.
The design team and SPR are working on updating the construction documents and finalizing the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) Street Improvement permit. A revised solar panel design is needed to power the irrigation onsite. SPR is identifying a new solar manufacturer to provide drawings and products. This is the last remaining coordination item needed to complete the set for final technical review. We anticipate a bid opening in the summer of 2025 and construction to run through the end of the year, with completion in 2026. We look forward to bringing the community’s ideas and vision synthesized during the early design stages of this project to life!

Project Description
SPR purchased this .33 acres in 2014 to provide the community access to open space within identified gaps across the city. The Seattle Park District funds the development of this parcel into a park.
SPR and Osborn Consulting worked with the community on the design for the new park, which will provide a "neighborhood green" for people of all ages to meet, eat, play, and celebrate. The design includes an oval lawn surrounded by a loop path with arching seat walls, imaginative and active play for young children, picnic areas, and a small stage. Native and drought-tolerant plants will express the natural history of this area, and trees will frame the park and provide shade.\
The parcel will not be accessible during construction.
