International District/Chinatown Community Center Alcove Safety Renovation

Summer 2025

Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR ) is launching a project to address safety concerns raised by staff and patrons regarding the front and rear entrance alcoves of the International District/Chinatown Community Center building. 

We hired a design consultant and completed conceptual designs for the entrance gates. The consultant is currently working to receive approval from permitting and review agencies for the project.

Main entrance of  the community center with double glass doors and metal security gates, set in a beige wall with large geometric window above. Two small trees are planted in rectangular sidewalk cutouts on either side of the doorway

Budget

The total budget for the project is $300,000, funded by the Seattle Metropolitan Park District.

Project Description

SPR is launching a project to address safety concerns raised by staff and patrons regarding the front and rear entrance alcoves of the International District/Chinatown Community Center building. 

The project will install secure gates to enclose the front entrance alcove off 8th Ave S and rear alcove in the alley. The front entrance gates will remain open during community center operating hours and have no impact on normal use and access to the community center.
