Project Description

In December 2010, Seattle Parks bought the empty lot right next to A.B. Ernst Park. The soil on this lot has some contamination that needs to be cleaned up during construction.

We first designed this park addition in early 2020 and were ready to start building. But when the pandemic hit, the City had to focus on essential services and pause many projects, including this one. In September 2022, the Seattle City Council approved new funding for parks, which brought this project back to life. We restarted work at the end of 2024.

Since the project was on hold for several years, building codes changed and we had to update the design. We worked hard to keep as much of the original plan as possible while staying within budget. The new design was approved in December 2025. We're now in the process of selecting a contractor, and construction should begin in Spring 2026.
