Closure
<h2>Queen Anne Pool will remain closed until fall 2027 due to a significant underground leak requiring major repair.</h2>
<p>A permanent fix will be completed as part of the <a href="https://www.seattle.gov/parks/about-us/projects/city-wide-pool-renovation">Citywide Pool Renovation Project</a> (future updates and timeline on this project will be shared on this website and in our Queen Anne Pool newsletter). </p>
<p>To address the impact, Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is <strong>significantly increasing swim lesson capacity, public swim times, and programming across the system.</strong> </p>
<h3>Background </h3>
<p>SPR closed the pool in November 2025 after it began losing approximately 400,000 gallons of water per month. Testing confirmed the leaks are within underground inflow pipes beneath the pool, making them inaccessible and difficult to repair. </p>
<p>Despite completing all accessible repairs, testing in March showed no reduction in water loss. Due to ongoing water loss, environmental considerations, and high operating costs, SPR will keep the pool closed until the significant repair needed is completed. </p>
<h2>How We’re Expanding Access </h2>
<p>To offset the closure, SPR is expanding access across multiple facilities. </p>
<h3>Summer 2026 </h3>
<p>In summer 2026, <a href="/parks/pools/mounger-pool">Mounger Pool</a> will see a major increase in programming, including 1,200 additional swim lesson spots, tripling the summer capacity previously offered at Queen Anne Pool and more than doubling swim lesson availability. Public swim times at Mounger will also be expanded, and Summer Swim League capacity will increase at Ballard Pool to absorb additional demand. </p>
<h3>Fall 2026 </h3>
<p>Expansion efforts will continue for fall 2026 with expanded hours and programming at <a href="/parks/pools/ballard-pool">Ballard</a>, <a href="/parks/pools/evans-pool">Evans</a>, and <a href="/parks/pools/medgar-evers-pool">Medgar Evers</a> pools. Ballard will add Saturday afternoon swim times, while Evans and Medgar Evers, which are typically closed on Sundays, will add Sunday operations along with early morning lap swim. Swim lesson capacity will also increase significantly across these three sites, adding more than 650 additional spots per week. With added weekday and weekend lesson options, total swim lesson capacity will exceed what Queen Anne Pool provided in 2025. </p>
<h3>Looking Ahead </h3>
<p>SPR will continue to evaluate community demand and explore opportunities to further expand programming beyond fall 2026 until the pool reopens. </p>
<p>We appreciate the community’s patience during this extended closure. SPR is expanding programs systemwide to maintain and, in many cases, exceed previous swim opportunities. We hope community members will take advantage of and enjoy these expanded offerings. </p>
