Updated: April 2, 2024

Spring 2024

This project will replace the Carkeek Park Railroad Overpass Pedestrian Bridge, which was originally built in 1955. This bridge creates a connection between the rest of Carkeek Park and the beach on the western side of the railroad tracks.

Thank you to everyone who provided input through our survey and at the tabling event in the Fall. We’re currently working on preparing preferred bridge designs and will announce findings and opportunities for input sometime in Spring or early Summer 2024.

• $500,000 Aquatic Lands Enhancement Act (ALEA)

Project Description

This project will replace the Carkeek Park Railroad Overpass Pedestrian Bridge, which was originally built in 1955. This bridge creates a connection between the rest of Carkeek Park and the beach on the western side of the railroad tracks.

Anticipated Impact

More information will be shared about anticipated impacts to the project site as the design is developed. The current assumption is the current bridge will remain in place, and the new bridge will be built adjacent to it. Demolition of the existing bridge is planned for after the new one is open which will limit the potential impact to beach access.

Community Participation

Thank you to everyone who provided input through our survey and at the tabling event in the Fall. Please see the images below for the survey results.
