City Wide Pools

Updated: September 3, 2019

Summer/Fall 2019

As a project management efficiency, Seattle Parks and Recreation, Planning and Development Division (PDD) consolidated needed citywide pool repairs into one bid package. Seattle Parks and Recreation awarded the construction contract to Biwell Construction, Inc. in early October 2018.

The City Wide Pools project is addressing needed structural improvements to seven existing pools:

  • Queen Anne - Queen Anne Pool completed structural repairs and is open.
  • Medger Evers - Refurbish existing pool bulkhead. Selective pool deck slab demolition and replacement. Selective pool deck drains demolition and replacement. Install new plaster liner. Repair SBS membrane roof at stair tower/mechanical room roof.

Medger Evers Pool Update - The pool is currently closed for the repairs. Due to unforeseen delays in the construction process, the Medgar Evers Pool grand reopening has been pushed back until early November. The work at Medger Evers Pool is taking longer than expected because we have found additional repairs than our preliminary investigation led us to expect.
Our preliminary investigation of the elevated pool deck slab found rusting rebar, which had caused concrete beneath the slab to delaminate and spall. We planned to repair that delamination and spalling. It was only when we opened up surfaces and began removing concrete that we could verify the amount of rusted rebar and concrete delamination. That additional work has required additional time to complete.

  • Meadowbrook - Selective pool deck slab demolition and replacement. Selective pool deck drains demolition and replacement. Selective repair of pool edge apron. Replacement of Natatorium air handling unit and associated duct work at Meadowbrook Pool is complete.

Meadowbrook Pool Update - The pool will be closing for a rebuild/correction of the pool deck for 2 weeks from 9/16-9/30
  • Southwest - Replacement of the pool liner is complete and the pool reopened June 24, 2019.
  • Madison - Facility is now closed for renovation. Refurbish existing pool bulkhead. Demolish and replace roof, install insulation and provide seismic structural upgrades.  Demolition and repair of stucco walls, siding, and clerestory windows. Demolish and replace lighting fixtures.
  • Ballard - Demolish and replace existing concrete pool deck, pool deck drains, pool & spa plaster liner and replace existing pool filter system.

Planned Closure Dates:

  • Queen Anne Pool: Open
  • Medgar Evers Pool: January 2 - Early November 2019
