HIGHLIGHTS

February 8: 8500 block of Sand Point Way NE fully closed for approximately 4 weeks during landslide repairs.

February 8: Southbound Aurora Ave. N. Transit Only Lane closed 24/7 at Comstock St. for up to 3 weeks. Additional lane closed intermittently at night.

February 14: Love 'em or Leave 'em Valentines 5K will close streets around Green Lake Sunday morning.

February 19 - 22: Eastbound I-90 closed between Seattle and Bellevue; traffic diverted to the express lanes.

February 29: Work on Stage 1 of the Denny Network Project begins at Minor Ave. & Stewart St. in Downtown Seattle.

Stage 1 of Denny Network project begins Construction of the Denny substation network will begin on Minor Avenue and on Stewart Street. The contractor plans to begin by installing two large vaults – one on Minor Avenue and one on Stewart Street just south of Minor Avenue. They then plan to connect the vaults with underground duct banks. Work will proceed in this manner down Stewart Street to 6th Avenue. This stage of work is expected to be complete in the summer of 2016.

Crews will relocate a 12-inch natural gas main along Alaskan Wy. between Pike St. and Madison St.  Work will take place mostly at night, Sundays through Fridays.  Impacts will include intermittent lane closures and parking restrictions; pedestrians and bicyclists will be rerouted around the work zone.

Seattle City Light Project-
Yesler Bridge Power Lines Undergrounding
Traffic and parking lane restriction on Yesler Wy. and 5th Ave. while crews undergrounding power lines currently on the underside of the Yesler Way Bridge over 4th Ave.  Yesler Wy. will be reduced to one lane of alternating traffic between 4th Ave. and 5th Ave. during working hours. This work is required prior to the renovation of the Yesler Way Bridge.

Western Ave. Emergency Water Main Replacement Project Crews will intermittently close traffic lanes on Western Ave. between Spring St. and Yesler Wy. during the replacement of a 20" water main.  Some full street closures may also occur during the project.
February 5 - 11 Western Ave. between Marion St. and Spring St. will be closed to vehicle traffic from 6AM to 3PM.  One southbound lane will be open from 3PM to 6PM.  No on-street parking allowed between Spring and Marion.  One eastbound lane on Marion, and one westbound lane on Columbia will be maintained.

First Hill Streetcar Project The First Hill Streetcar is now in service! The streetcar will connect riders to the neighborhoods of Capitol Hill, First Hill, the Central District, Little Saigon, Chinatown, Japantown, and Pioneer Square. Fares are free during a promotional service period, which will culminate in a community celebration, to be announced soon.  During the promotional service period, streetcars will operate on their regular schedule and frequencies.

12th Ave. Safety Improvements Project E. Howell St. and E. Olive St. will be closed to all traffic at 12th Ave. during pedestrian safety and mobility improvements (only one side of an intersection will be closed at a time).  In addition, there will be intermittent parking and lane restrictions on 12th Ave. between E. Howell and E. Olive.  One lane in each direction will be maintained.

WSDOT I-90 Two-Way Transit and HOV Operations - Stage 3 Project will add an HOV lane in each direction of the outer roadway between Seattle and Mercer Island; build an eastbound HOV direct access exit ramp at Island Crest Way on Mercer Island; Upgrade I-90 tunnels fire and life safety systems in Seattle and Mercer Island; prepare the center roadway for Sound Transit's 14-mile East Link rail extension from Seattle to Redmond.

23rd Ave. Corridor Project
Phase 1 - S. Jackson St. to E. John St.
A Seattle Department of Transportation project that will improve safety and mobility for drivers, pedestrians and transit riders. The project includes: modifying 23rd Ave. from a four-lane street to a three-lane street - one lane in each direction with a center left-turn lane (key intersections will stay four lanes); repaving 23rd Ave;
widening sidewalks to at least five feet and repairing broken and buckling sidewalks; installing new streetlights; upgrading traffic signals to give transit priority at key locations; consolidating bus stops to improve transit speed; replacing a 100 year-old water main that runs underneath 23rd Ave.

Ballard Neighborhood Greenway Project Ballard Neighborhood Greenway Project on 17th Ave. NW between NW 90th St. and Russell Ave. NW.  Safety improvements include: speed humps and all-way stops; wayfinding signs and pavement markings; striped crosswalks, curb extensions, and flashing beacons.  Vehicle speeds will be reduced to 20 MPH.  Impacts include: temporary on-street parking restrictions; short-tem single lane closures; pedestrian and bicyclist detours.  Work is expected to take 4 months.

Seattle City Light crews will be working to increase the electrical service reliability in the SODO neighborhood with an electrical system upgrade along S. Horton St. between 4th Ave. S. and Colorado Ave. S.  The project involves replacing poles, overhead electrical wire, and upgrading equipment.  Parking impacts are expected, as well as several planned power outages of 2 to 3 hours each.

South Lake Union Transit Improvements Project will build a series of improvements along Westlake Avenue N and Aloha and Valley Street, including new transit lanes and transit stop upgrades. These improvements accommodate shifting Route 40 to Westlake Ave N in both directions, more trips on Route 40 and extending RapidRide C Line from W Seattle to Downtown. The transit lanes also benefit the SLU Streetcar.
