HIGHLIGHTS

September 29 - October 2: Final regular season homestand at Safeco Field for the Seattle Mariners (vs. Oakland A's).

September 29: SR520 closed between Montlake and Bellevue during a concrete pour and removal of a sign bridge.

September 30: Washington Huskies host the Stanford Cardinal at 6PM at Husky Stadium. Expect heavy congestion and delays in areas near the stadium during the Friday evening commute.

October 7 - 10: SR520 closed between Seattle and Bellevue during paving and striping, and during maintenance to the temporary tolling system.

October 8 & 9: SR99 Viaduct closed for semi-annual inspection.

October 8 & 9: 23rd Ave. E. & E. John St. intersection closed.

6th Ave. & Cherry St. Duct Bank Installation Project
Seattle City Light plans to install a duct bank between existing electrical vaults at 6th Ave. and Cherry St.  Crews plan to excavate on the west side of 6th Ave. into the south side of Cherry St.  During the first stage of work, 6th Ave. between Columbia St. and Cherry St. will be reduced to two lanes of traffic (9AM - 3PM on weekdays, and 9AM - 6PM on weekends).  In addition, Columbia St. will be reduced to one lane of traffic between 6th Ave. and 5th Ave. (weekends only).

Denny Network project Construction of the Denny substation network will begin on Minor Avenue and on Stewart Street. The contractor plans to begin by installing two large vaults – one on Minor Avenue and one on Stewart Street just south of Minor Avenue. They then plan to connect the vaults with underground duct banks. Work will proceed in this manner down Stewart Street to 6th Avenue. This stage of work is expected to be complete in the third quarter of 2016.

Yesler Bridge Rehabilitation Project The Seattle Department of Transportation will be rehabilitating the Yesler Way Bridge, located at the intersection of Yesler Way and Terrace St over 4th Ave S, starting as soon as May 2016 and lasting through fall 2017.  Traffic impacts will include: Yesler Way closed in both directions between 3rd Ave. and midway between 5th Ave. and 6th Ave; Terrace St. closed to through traffic, open to local access; 4th Ave. will have ongoing lane closures and occasional full nighttime and weekend closures; sidewalks on either side of 4th Ave. will have alternating closures; transit and bicycle detours in the project area.

23rd Ave. Corridor Project
Phase 1 - S. Jackson St. to E. John St.
A Seattle Department of Transportation project that will improve safety and mobility for drivers, pedestrians and transit riders. The project includes: modifying 23rd Ave. from a four-lane street to a three-lane street - one lane in each direction with a center left-turn lane (key intersections will stay four lanes); repaving 23rd Ave;
widening sidewalks to at least five feet and repairing broken and buckling sidewalks; installing new streetlights; upgrading traffic signals to give transit priority at key locations; consolidating bus stops to improve transit speed; replacing a 100 year-old water main that runs underneath 23rd Ave.

Work on 23rd Ave. between E. Yesler Wy. and E. Cherry St. is now restored to two-way traffic.  Some intermittent work is still required to complete work on Zone A, including additional sidewalk work, pole installation, electrical work, and landscaping.

Paving Project Starting the week of August 1, SDOT will repave and make other improvements along Greenwood Ave. N. from N. 112th St. to N. 136th St.  Work is expected to take approximately two and a half months to complete.  During non-peak hours, Greenwood Ave. N. will be reduced to one lane in each direction.  During the AM commute, two southbound lanes will be open.  During the PM commute, two northbound lanes will be open.

Meridian Ave. N Paving and Safety Improvements Project As early as May 31, the Seattle Department of Transportation plans to repave Meridian Ave N between N 103rd St and N 112th St.  As part of this project, SDOT will install safety improvements to enhance the travel experience of people walking, biking, or using transit along this busy north-south corridor.  Project will: repave the roadway; install traffic signal upgrades; install new concrete landing pads at bus stops; install new stormwater detention system; add buffer lanes between bike and  driving lanes.  Work is expected to last three months.

Roosevelt Way NE Paving and Safety Improvements Project SDOT will repave and install pedestrian and transit improvements along Roosevelt Way NE between NE 65th Street and the University Bridge, beginning in mid-March. A protected bike lane will also be constructed as part of the project.

Paving in Zone C (NE 53rd St. to NE 45th St) is complete.  Crews are working to finish remaining sidewalk work in Zone C this week, before starting construction in Zone D.  Materials, equipment, signs, and tree protection will be moved to Zone D this week.  King County Metro will install bus shelters on new transit islands in the coming weeks.

Burke-Gilman Trail closed between 15th Ave. NE and Rainier Vista Crews will close the Burke-Gilman Trail on the UW campus between 15th Ave. NE and Rainier Vista for approximately 9 months during trail improvements.  Construction will also close the Hitchcock pedestrian and bicycle bridge over NE Pacific St, and relocate a bus stop from NE Pacific St. to 15th Ave. NE.

SW Spokane St. Arterial Paving Project Starting the week of August 8, SDOT will repave and make other improvements along SW Spokane St from Klickitat Ave SW to East Marginal Way S.  Work is expected to take approximately three months to complete.  Impacts include single lane closures during working hours and temporary pedestrian and bike detours.

Fauntleroy Expressway Bearing Pad Replacement Project Beginning in mid-May, the Seattle Department of Transportation will be replacing the bearing pads on the Fauntleroy Expressway (West Seattle Freeway) from just west of the Delridge Way on/off ramp westward to where the road turns south (where the road is no longer a bridge).  Traffic impacts will include: nighttime bridge closures five nights per week (Sunday night to Friday morning); the bridge will be closed west of Delridge Way from 9 PM until 5 AM the next morning (on evenings when the Mariners or Sounders are playing, the bridge closure will be delayed until 11 PM); temporary closure of the parking underneath the sections of bridge being worked upon day and night, as well as a temporary closure of the Metro bus stop located at this location.

South Park 14th & Concord Sewer Improvement Project Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is installing a new pipe and drainage structures to increase capacity for stormwater and sewage, and reduce flooding in the South Park neighborhood. The pipe will run under 14th Ave. S, between S. Concord and S. Donovan St, and west under S. Donovan St. to 12th Ave. S.  Anticipated impacts include: traffic on 14th Ave. S. will be reduced to two lanes and shifted east; no on-street parking along 14th Ave. S. between S. Donovan and S. Concord Streets; S. Donovan St. between 14th and 12th Ave. S. will be local access only; no on-street parking on S. Donovan St. between 12th and 14th Ave. S; temporary closures of sidewalks; temporary closures of driveways.

Denny Network project Construction of the Denny substation network will begin on Minor Avenue and on Stewart Street. The contractor plans to begin by installing two large vaults – one on Minor Avenue and one on Stewart Street just south of Minor Avenue. They then plan to connect the vaults with underground duct banks. Work will proceed in this manner down Stewart Street to 6th Avenue. This stage of work is expected to be complete in the third quarter of 2016.

Cycle Track Project The protected bike lane is fully open!  Crews are working on some finishing touches throughout the corridor, but the last stretch of bike lane is now complete.  Final touches throughout the corridor include: Seattle City Light crews will activate the traffic signal on Westlake Ave N near 8th Ave N and street lights along the corridor in the coming weeks; crews will work on drainage and restoration on Westlake Ave N near 8th Ave N; SDOT's Urban Forestry will continue tree and landscaping improvements; crews will install a pedestrian handrail near Diamond Marina in the coming weeks; crews will work to remove equipment and clean up the work zone in the coming days.
