HIGHLIGHTS

April 21: Buses will drop-off and pick-up students at KeyArena for We Day. Expect congestion and delays in the South Lake Union neighborhood during the morning and afternoon commutes.

April 22 & 23: Southbound Fairview Ave. N. closed between Mercer and Republican St; northbound Fairview reduced to one lane.

April 22: SPD will escort the March for Science from Cal Anderson Park on Capitol Hill to the Seattle Center via Pine St. and 4th Ave.

April 24 - May 7: 6th Ave. reduced to one lane between Stewart St. and Westlake Ave. during roadway restoration work.

May 2: 3rd Ave. Arterial Paving Project begins (Virginia to Broad). First phase will reduce 3rd Ave. to one lane in each direction between Virginia St. and Blanchard St. Project is expected to last 10 months.

3rd Ave. Arterial Paving Project The Seattle Department of Transportation will repave 3rd Ave. through Belltown (Virginia St to Broad St).  Construction is currently slated to begin on Tuesday, May 2.  Crews will work from south to north, with the project area divided into four construction zones.  Work must be substantially complete in one zone before the contractor moves onto the next.

The first zone will be from Virginia to mid-block north of Lenora.  They will initially work on the center lanes in this zone, with traffic restricted to a single curb lane of traffic in each direction.  This work is expected to take about two weeks to complete, after which construction will shift to the east side of 3rd Ave, with a single lane of traffic in each direction on the west side of the street.  These traffic configurations will remain in place 24/7 until this phase of construction has been completed.

2nd Ave. Mobility Improvements Project The Seattle Department of Transportation is making traffic signal improvements and extending the existing 2-way protected bike lane along 2nd Ave from Pike St to Denny Way. These improvements will organize the street and move people more efficiently.  Construction will start in early 2017 and the new protected bike lane is scheduled to open in fall 2017.

Sidewalk, parking lane, and traffic lane restrictions on 2nd Ave. between Denny Way and Pike St. during potholing for underground utilities, and signal and foundation work.  During working hours, one lane will remain open at all times north of Lenora St; two lanes will remain open south of Lenora St. Work hours are 7AM to 6PM weekdays.  Intermittent lane closures on cross-streets are also possible during working hours.

Seattle City Light Project -
6th Ave. & Cherry St. Duct Bank Installation Project
Seattle City Light plans to install a duct bank between existing electrical vaults at 6th Ave. and Cherry St.  During the last phase of this project, crews will work on the intersection of 6th Ave. and Cherry St., and continue into the south side of Cherry St.  During work hours, 6th Ave. and Cherry St. will be reduced to two lanes. Parking may also be restricted.  Work hours are 9AM to 3PM weekdays, and 9AM to 6PM weekends.

Denny Network project Construction of the Denny substation network will begin on Minor Avenue and on Stewart Street. The contractor plans to begin by installing two large vaults – one on Minor Avenue and one on Stewart Street just south of Minor Avenue. They then plan to connect the vaults with underground duct banks. Work will proceed in this manner down Stewart Street to 6th Avenue. This stage of work is expected to be complete in the third quarter of 2016.

Yesler Bridge Rehabilitation Project The Seattle Department of Transportation will be rehabilitating the Yesler Way Bridge, located at the intersection of Yesler Way and Terrace St over 4th Ave S, starting as soon as May 2016 and lasting through fall 2017.  Traffic impacts will include: Yesler Way closed in both directions between 3rd Ave. and midway between 5th Ave. and 6th Ave; Terrace St. closed to through traffic, open to local access; 4th Ave. will have ongoing lane closures and occasional full nighttime and weekend closures; sidewalks on either side of 4th Ave. will have alternating closures; transit and bicycle detours in the project area.

E. Union St. Underground Conversions Project
A Seattle City Light contractor will be working in the Capitol Hill neighborhood to install underground electrical conduit, vaults and associated equipment in parts of E. Union St. from 10th to 11th Ave. This work is aligned with the City of Seattle’s ordinance to underground power lines in this area.  Work is expected to last 5 months.

On E. Union St, crews will work on one side of the street at a time during construction.  Customers can expect temporary travel lanes, parking restrictions, sidewalk and bike lane impacts within this work zone.  This phase of work is anticipated for completion in late-February 2017.

Until further notice The North Seattle Park-and-Ride lot and interim Park-and-Ride lot located near the former Marie Callender's restaurant in Northgate will close Monday, March 17, 2016.  The new interim Park-and-Ride will be located at the NW corner of NE 103rd St. and 5th Ave. NE.
Until further notice Upcoming construction of the Northgate light rail station will occupy space in the Northgate Park-and-Ride (West).  Fencing will go up around the middle section of the West lot as early as Dec. 7, 2016.  To offset the loss of those stalls, the north end of the former North Seattle Park & Ride will reopen on the west side of 1st Ave NE between NE 100th and 103rd Streets.

The Marion St. driveway at the Colman Dock shifts north, between Marion St. and Madison St.  During this time most vehicles will exit Colman Dock at Yesler Wy.  All trucks over 30' must exit at Yesler Wy.  Vehicular traffic directed to exit at the Marion St. driveway will turn right or left onto Alaskan Wy.
