Arbor Heights Safe Routes to School Project: 35th Ave SW from SW 100th St to SW 106th S

Making it safer and easier for kids to walk and bike to school

Updated: June 28, 2018

What’s happening now?

This project is now in construction. We have replaced the stormwater drainage and detention system underground on 35th Ave SW between SW 104th St and SW 106th St. We will begin sidewalk and driveway construction work on 35th Ave SW between SW 102nd St and SW 104th St in early July. This work requires full closure of this segment of 35th Ave SW for two weeks. Once we complete this work, we will move to the last segment and begin work between SW 100th St and SW 102nd St. Detours will be in place for the duration of the closure. Please refer to the map below.

Project Overview

This Safe Routes to School project will make it safer and easier for kids to walk and bike to school by adding sidewalks and improving the intersections along 35th Ave SW, from SW 100th to SW 106th streets near Arbor Heights Elementary.

In addition to the new and widened sidewalks, project improvements will include:

  • A new parking strip along the west side of 35th Ave SW
  • Curb bulbs to shorten the crossing distance for people walking
  • ADA-compliant curb ramps for better accessibility
  • A new stormwater and detention system between SW 104th and SW 106th streets

Similar projects are being constructed at 31 Seattle schools this year. Projects include new crosswalks, new sidewalks, new signals, and traffic calming on the walking routes to school.
