Urban Design Program

The Urban Design team supports SDOT’s departmental mission and vision to create high-quality streets and vibrant public spaces. Our work focuses on optimizing the human experience in the public realm. This can be accomplished through integrated street design that includes, but is not limited to, effective wayfinding, pedestrian lighting, landscape, street furniture and public space. Our team supports the adherence to Complete Streets principles in our capital projects, and maintains those principles in the SDOT’s street design standards found in Streets Illustrated. By designing high quality streets for people of all ages and abilities, we promote greater use of our streets for a range of mobility options, such as walking, transit use, and biking.
