Don Armeni Boat Ramp Improvement

Updated: February 23, 2023

Early 2023

We have completed 100% design for the project, however, we are still waiting for approval on the required federal permits. We have put the project out to bid since the floats are long lead items. We are striving to achieve installation of the new boat ramps within the next in-water work window which begins in the summer (July 2023).

The Army Corps of Engineers and National Marine Fisheries Service were confronted with several emergent priority projects (West Seattle Bridge) and regulatory changes which has slowed the permitting process. These agencies are now working through a large backlog of permit applications.

Some of the new federal rule changes are outlined here.

The permit, NWS-2018-1191-WRD - Don Armeni, has been under review since early June 2021 and has been moved forward for Endangered Species Act (ESA) consultation.
See permit drawings here.

The in-water work windows for Elliott Bay (July through December) will dictate the timing for in-water work. We will not shut the facility down during construction, we will replace the floats one side at a time. One Float will remain open during construction for launching and retrieval.

The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office Boating Facilities Grant and Seattle Parks and Recreation fund this project.
