Artist Studios at Magnuson Park

Building 30 Artist Studios

In the late 1990’s, the land and buildings that now comprise Magnuson Park transferred from the US Navy to the City of Seattle. At that time, the Sand Point community and City planning endeavored to create an arts and culture space within the new Magnuson Park.  While the facilities required significant updating before this vision could be realized, the commitment to arts and culture remained throughout the master planning phase of the park’s development.

In 2013, renovations in the west half of Building 30 were completed, establishing 32 rental studios for a creative arts hub at Magnuson Park.  These studios provide reasonably priced spaces for artists to perform their work and foster an artist community at Magnuson Park.  The license agreements for the studios require artist tenants to participate in two open studio events per year to showcase their work.

In addition to artist studios, the renovation established a small display gallery, which is managed by the Sand Point Arts & Cultural Exchange (SPACE) and is open to the public.

Studios range in size from approximately 140 to 800 square feet. Most have windows; some do not. We encourage those on the waitlist to accept any available studio and change later if a more desirable space becomes available.

The Magnuson art studios are not primarily intended for commercial use.  Studio tenants who conduct on-site business are required to purchase commercial general liability and other insurance outlined in the standard license agreement, available here.  These studios cannot accommodate high-voltage electric equipment, extreme temperatures (such as glass blowing or pottery kilns), or extreme noise.

Magnuson Park administration staff maintains a waitlist for artists who are interested in renting studio space.  When a studio becomes available, we offer the space to the artists on our waitlist.  If a studio becomes available and you decline an opportunity, you will be removed from the current waitlist. You can submit a new application at any time to be put back on the waitlist.
