Madrona Playground Play Area Renovation

Updated: July 1, 2025

Summer 2025

Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is working closely with the contractor to complete the final checklist of items required to safely open the play area to the public. While the fence footprint was modified in late May, the play area remains fully enclosed and is not yet ready for public use.

Our goal is to finish all outstanding work by the end of the day on Thursday, July 3 and open the space to the community shortly thereafter. Please note: if security fencing is still in place around the play area, it is not open for use. Please watch this page for updates on the exact opening date.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we finalize the new play area space.

Location

Madrona Playground, 3211 E Spring Street, 98122

Budget

The Seattle Park District provides $550,000 for planning, design, and construction.

Schedule

Planning: Spring 2023 - Early 2024
Design: Fall 2023 - Fall 2024
Construction: December 2024

Project Description

This project will replace all of the existing play equipment to meet current safety and accessibility standards. The existing sandbox will be removed to give more space for the adjacent cherry tree grove. This project will also include design support for a structure to provide cover for the adjacent stage, to be built by the community at a future date.

Anticipated Impact: The play area will be closed throughout construction
