Green Lake Community Center Redevelopment and Stabilization

Updated: July 14, 2022

Summer 2022

In parallel with the stabilization project listed below, which is now completed, Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) launched the planning for the replacement of Green Lake Community Center and Pool. SPR has completed the conceptual design phase and the design is on hold as we work to secure additional funding. View the Conceptual Design Documents here.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the conceptual design review Online Open House November 16 - December 4, 2020. The Online Open House provided an opportunity for the community to review the overall site plan, the building layout, and conceptual renderings of what the building and activity spaces may look like in the facility. Visiting the Online Open House, and providing your feedback was especially helpful to the design team, Miller Hull, for what activities/amenities you would like to see in the center and pool.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the first and second Online Open Houses and Online Public Meetings for the future Green Lake Community Center and Pool. We appreciate the participation and value your input. Along with technical considerations, the public input from the online open house helped the project team identify which site option and amenities to advance in the design process.

Green Lake Community Center Stabilization Work

All Stabilization work is now complete.

You can read the update from last fall below for details of the work performed.

Fall 2021 Stabilization Update:
Until the center and pool are redeveloped Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is working to maintain the current facility and keep it open and available to serve the community. In 2019, SPR completed repairs which included a crucial roof repair, building electrical improvements, gym floor leveling and refinishing and replacement of the pool pump. The current stabilization project is to replace the boilers and the air handling system.

This Green Lake Mechanical project replaces two key systems at the Community Center, "wet side" boilers and associated equipment in the boiler room and "dry side" roof mounted mechanical units providing fresh air and ventilation to the locker rooms, offices, and bathrooms at the community center. Equipment startup and testing, in May of 2021, revealed missing valves in the hot water system. Valves were installed and system testing was repeated and project was substantially complete in June. Minor roofing, clean up and controls issues have been addressed in July/ August and we are preparing to declare the project complete. View photos of some of the equipment installations here.

The facility has been providing shower access to the homeless, Seattle Parks coordinated with SPU to stand up shower trailers outside the Community Center for five months, we have recently brought the shower program back inside using temporary systems until our new equipment is all on line. SPU, Uplift Northwest, and the Parks Aquatics Team led by Donna Sammons have done an amazing job of coordinating and ensuring continuity of the shower program.
