Carkeek Park Playground Renovation

Spring 2024

This project will replace the Carkeek Park Railroad Overpass Pedestrian Bridge, which was originally built in 1955. This bridge creates a connection between the rest of Carkeek Park and the beach on the western side of the railroad tracks. 
 
Thank you to everyone who provided input through our survey and at the tabling event in the Fall. We’re currently working on preparing preferred bridge designs and will announce findings and opportunities for input in Spring or early Summer 2024.

Budget

$1,288,000 (Funding source: REET I) for playground construction
$70,000 (Seattle Park District) for comfort station renovation design. Funds for construction of comfort station improvements will be identified in 2023

Construction: Winter 2024/25
Completion: Spring 2025

Project Description

This project will replace the existing play area and make accessibility improvements to the pathway from the parking lot to the play area. This project will use synthetic safety surfacing in the play area. If necessary, this project will also hire an artist to repaint the Salmon Slide. All improvements will meet accessibility and stormwater requirements.

The play area will be closed throughout construction.
