Safe Routes to School: Funding Opportunities

Have a great idea to improve safety around your school or get more kids biking and walking? There are multiple sources of funding to make it happen.

SDOT’s Mini Grants provide up to $1,000 for education and encouragement programs for walking and biking to school.

Neighborhood Park and Street Fund supports pedestrian improvements, for example curb ramps or speed feedback signs, of up to $90,000 in cost.

Department of Neighborhoods Neighborhood Matching Fund includes the Small Sparks Fund, Small and Simple Projects Fund, and Large Projects Fund. These grants fund community-supported projects to enhance your neighborhood.

Washington Traffic Safety Commission offers four grant programs: school grants for flashing beacons, school mini grants of up to $500, non-profit mini grants of up to $1,000, and annual grants for traffic safety.
