Garbage service is a required and essential service for all Seattle single-family homes. Remember to bag all your garbage, which prevents the driver from touching the garbage and makes collection cleaner and easier.

Garbage is collected every week. Find your collection day by using the online lookup calendar, by downloading the Recycle It App for weekly reminders on your smart phone, or by calling (206) 684-3000.

How much does it cost? Seattle has a "pay-as-you-throw" cost structure. The less garbage you throw away, the less your service costs. View all garbage container and rate options. Recycling service is included in the cost.

What goes in the garbage? Things that are not accepted in the recycling or food & yard waste. Look things up in the Where Does it Go? tool.

Have extra garbage? You can set it out as extra garbage on your collection day, request a special item collection, or take it to a transfer station.

For Business &
Commercial Customers:

To set up service or resolve issues, commercial businesses deal directly with the commercial garbage provider for their area. Apartment and condominium buildings, however, should work with Seattle Public Utilities to set up service.

Businesses can reduce their need for garbage collection by recycling, composting food scraps, and salvaging building materials during construction.
