Beyond the Cart – Recycle & Compost Events

Special Item Pickups at your Home

For an additional cost on most items, we will pick up the following items from your house:

  • Large furniture and appliances (including ones with CFCs)
  • Electronic waste (TVs, computers, tablets, laptops, monitors)
  • CFL bulbs
  • Household batteries
  • Styrofoam blocks
  • Used cooking and motor oil

Recycling & Reuse Collection Events

Have stuff to recycle that doesn't go in your cart? Bring it to a Recycling & Reuse Collection event! We host six events a year to collect items for recycling and reuse that can't go in your home recycle carts or dumpsters. Events are free and open to all Seattle residents.

Accepted items:

  • Styrofoam
  • Household batteries (no damaged batteries)
  • Florescent tubes and bulbs (no broken bulbs, limit: 4 ft.)
  • Small electronics
  • Small appliances (non-freon)
  • Clothing & linens (any condition, must be clean and dry)
  • Furniture & household goods (in good condition)
  • Paper for shredding (limit: 4 boxes of paper)

Items NOT accepted:

  • Commercial loads
  • Broken furniture or household goods
  • Garbage
  • Yard waste
  • Household recycling (items that go in your cart/dumpster)
  • Hazardous waste
  • Automotive waste
  • Construction waste
  • Non-recyclable or reusable items
  • Car seats


Free Compost Giveaway Events

Get FREE compost made from your food & yard waste

In Spring and Fall, we have Bulk Compost Giveaway Events to thank customers for composting their food and yard waste by giving some of it back for FREE.

Each household can get up to 1/2 yard of bulk compost for FREE. Bring a shovel and container to haul your compost away. Events are first come, first serve, until the compost is gone.
