Urban Tree Nursery

Cedar City Tree Care Facility

Cedar City, Seattle Public Utilities’ tree care facility, supports our Trees for Neighborhoods planting program; we care for trees that will be planted around people’s homes throughout Seattle. Our nursery allows us to provide trees that are well-suited to Seattle’s unique urban forest.

The health of people, trees, residential neighborhoods, and our surrounding environment in cities are closely linked and dependent on each other. Cedar City provides hardy, climate-ready, pest-resilient trees for an increasingly dense Seattle.

Cedar City is closed to the public for day-to-day operations.

Background

Since 2009, the Trees for Neighborhoods program has helped Seattle plant thousands of trees at homes, schools, businesses, gathering places, and along streets. Cedar City stabilizes our annual tree supply for residents; learn more about how to get a free tree with us.

Pipers Creek, one of Seattle’s main salmon-bearing creeks, flows through an underground creek culvert (tunnel) beneath the Cedar City site. Protection of this site is one of the ways that Seattle Public Utilities is planning for long term creek health. A healthy urban forest also supports creek health by shading and cooling waters.
