Little Brook Pedestrian Safety Enhancements

Updated: December 27, 2019

What’s happening now?

We are coordinating design efforts for sidewalk and walkway improvements in Little Brook with other departments and agencies. Early-phase designs have been developed for the project based on the concepts described below. We are welcoming feedback on these designs and may have additional meetings with neighbors and community members as the project design moves forward.

We would like to thank the community for your patience and cooperation as we work together towards a final design and construction as soon as 2021.

If you have comments on the project concepts, there are several ways to submit your feedback:

  • Send an email directly to the project email address.
  • Call 206-733-9361. When leaving a voicemail, be sure to state which project you're calling about and whether you'd like a return call from our team.
  • Review project concepts and submit your feedback via a comment form at participating libraries and community centers (click here to find a library or community center near you). Comment forms are available in English, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Somali and Vietnamese.  To request comment forms in other languages or other reasonable accommodations or assistance, please contact us at: NSF@seattle.gov or 206-733-9361

The comment period will be open until January 31, 2020.

Project Overview

Little Brook is a rapidly-growing neighborhood with few existing pedestrian facilities. This project will address walkability by constructing new sidewalks and walkways on 32nd Ave NE and NE 143rd St to fill gaps in the sidewalk network and connect people walking to transit, businesses, and community destinations.

These improvements will provide a safer, more comfortable, and more accessible route for walking and rolling along these streets while helping to enhance drainage and encourage slower vehicle speeds on residential streets.

Project Area

The initial design of the project includes new raised concrete sidewalks on the west side of 32nd Ave NE between NE 143rd St and NE 145th St and on the north side of NE 143rd St between 32nd Ave NE and Lake City Way NE. The project also includes a new at-grade painted walkway on the north side of NE 143rd St between 30th Ave NE and 32nd Ave NE.

These sidewalk and walkway improvements are currently in their early design phases and are planned for construction in 2021. This project is next to a planned sidewalk project on the east side of 30th Ave NE between NE 137th St and NE 143rd St, which will be constructed as soon as 2020.

Project Background

In 2019, the Little Brook Pedestrian Safety Enhancements project was one of 15 projects selected by the Levy to Move Seattle Oversight Committee to be funded through SDOT’s Neighborhood Street Fund (NSF) Program. The project, located on 32nd Ave NE and NE 143rd St in Little Brook, aims to improve walkability in Little Brook through the construction of new sidewalk and walkway improvements.

Note: funds not used for this project will be returned to the NSF program budget.
