25th Avenue NE Paving Project
Updated: February 2, 2017
The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) plans to resurface about 4.4 miles of 25th Avenue NE between Montlake Boulevard NE and NE 65th St. As part of the resurfacing, crews will grind off the old road surface, place new asphalt and repaint the lane striping.
The project will also:
This project is currently in design. As we get closer to finalizing the design, we will begin engaging businesses and residents about the project.
Each year, SDOT resurfaces a number of the City's arterials, determining which streets should be repaved on the basis of traffic volumes and the current condition of the road.
Called a "mill and overlay" project, the contractor will grind off the top two inches of existing road surface, make any needed repairs to the road base below, and then repave with new asphalt. This work is expected to extend the life of the street for another 10-12 years, and will provide a smoother driving experience.
This maintenance work does not preclude us from returning later to make additional improvements to 25th Ave NE.
