Where does my water come from?

Seattle has two large, regional watersheds: the Cedar and the Tolt. Our watersheds supply quality drinking water to 1.4 million people in the greater Seattle area.

Water rates at work

When you pay for water, the money goes back into our infrastructure and services. Here are just a few examples of your rates at work:

  • Protecting the safety and security of our water supply system.
  • Daily testing to maintain safe, quality drinking water.
  • Operating our state-of-the-art Cedar and Tolt water treatment facilities.
  • Providing services to help customers manage their bills and resolve problems.
  • Maintaining and repairing 1,800 miles of pipeline, 20,000 valves, 18,000 fire hydrants, 180,000 water service connections, and dozens of other water facilities.
