COVID-19 Worker Protections

In 2020 and 2021 the City of Seattle passed three temporary COVID-19 laws that provided certain labor standards protections for gig workers: Gig Worker Paid Sick and Safe Time, Gig Worker Premium Pay, and Grocery Employee Hazard Pay

  • The protections of the Gig Worker Paid Sick and Safe Time law were effective from July 13, 2020 through April 30, 2023.
  • The protections of the Gig Worker Premium Pay law were effective from June 26, 2020 through October 31, 2022.
  • The protections of the Grocery Employee Hazard Pay law were effective from February 3, 2021 to September 1, 2022.
