Internships at Seattle City Light

At City Light, our internships focus on professional development, giving you the chance to work closely with professionals on meaningful projects, engage with utility leaders, and develop real-world skills.

We have internships in a variety of areas - from engineering, finance and accounting, to communications, human resources, environmental affairs, and many others.

Working on Projects that Matter

As a City Light intern, your time will be focused on the real work of the utility:

  • Creating new content for employees and customers related to our work
  • Tackling large-scale projects alongside your professional colleagues
  • Developing solutions to address business-critical issues we face
  • Going out into the field and working to help power Seattle

The result is a portfolio of work that puts your education into practice and builds skills you can use in your professional field of interest.

Professional Development Opportunities

In addition to work assignments, you will have opportunities for learning and development, including:

  • Opportunity to work with other interns across the utility and learn from them
  • Ability to talk to executive leadership, ask questions and understand the utility more
  • Tours of our hydroelectric project in the North Cascades to see how it works at the ground level
  • Visits to City Light substations and facilities to see how power is delivered
  • Attending professional development workshops on the business of the utility

Support to Succeed

As an intern, you will receive 100% support from your managers, mentors and teammates throughout the utility. We provide a warm, welcoming and encouraging environment for learning - investing in our interns to fuel growth in individuals, our utility and our community.
