Citywide Safety Unit

We're all responsible for workplace safety. The Seattle Department of Human Resources (SDHR) Safety Unit partners with safety officers throughout the City to promote a safe and healthful work environment.
Together, we:

  • Conduct pre-employment and ongoing medical examinations
  • Evaluate exposures to safety hazards
  • Assess and correct ergonomic hazards for all employees
  • Operate the City's drug testing program and commercial driver program

We also work with Human Resources and Safety staff to:

  • Develop Citywide safety policies and procedures
  • Create and deliver safety training and education programs
  • Conduct Citywide Safety meetings to share safety issues and concerns across multiple departments
