Health Plans: LEOFF Fire Retirees

The Law Enforcement Officers and Fire Fighters (LEOFF) Retirement System is a defined benefit plan that provides a secure, formula-driven income for retirement.

LEOFF Plan 1 is for employees who became members before October 1, 1977. Retirees have medical coverage through the Washington State Department of Retirement System, and dependents can purchase medical coverage through the City of Seattle.

LEOFF Plan 2 is for employees who first became members on or after October 1, 1977. Retirees and dependents can purchase medical coverage through the City. Get retiree medical plan documents and contact information. Go to the Washington State Department of Retirement System webpage at drs.wa.gov/plan/leoff2/ for plan handbooks, as well as information on disability benefits, military service credit, retirement planning FAQs, working after retirement, and purchasing service credit.

If you want to stay in your current plan, no action is necessary. If you are changing medical plans offered through the City, you must fill out an enrollment form and submit it to the SDHR Benefits Unit postmarked no later than Friday, November 18, 2022. Call our office at (206) 615-1340 or email us at Benefits.Unit@seattle.gov to request an enrollment form to be sent to you.
