Labor Relations

Labor Relations provides technical and professional services to policy makers and City department managers, to advance effective, respectful and fair labor relations. This enhances the City's delivery of quality public services.

Management representatives for the City of Seattle and labor representatives of the majority of unions that represent employees of the City have worked diligently and deliberately to develop a relationship based upon mutual respect, openness, honesty, and accountability for mutual decisions. We're creating a labor relations environment that meets our respective interests, using strategies that build a productive relationship for the future. The parties have established a number of structures and statements of mutual understandings.

Consistent with and pursuant to RCW 42.30.140(4)(b), and Municipal Code Section 4.04.120, the Labor Relations Policy Committee exclusively plans and adopts the strategy or position to be taken by the City to fulfill its obligations during the course of any collective bargaining, professional negotiations, or grievance or mediation proceedings, or reviews the proposals made in those negotiations or proceedings while in progress. The City's obligation to engage in these activities related to collective bargaining is expressed in Chapter 41.56, RCW. The LRPC normally meets on the fourth Friday of each month from 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. depending upon the existence of agenda items applicable to RCW 42.30.140(4)(b). In accordance with RCW 42.30.140(4)(b), these meetings are not public.
