The Seattle Department of Human Resources is responsible for managing programs and services related to the City's work force. SDHR administers the City's systems and programs for employee development, employment and recruiting, job classification and compensation, labor relations, benefits, safety, workers' compensation, records and information management systems, and affirmative action/EEO.

Department Mission

SDHR provides the leadership and expertise to define and direct strategic Citywide human resource policies and practices.

The Seattle Department of Human Resources provides services for the City of Seattle's diverse workforce. We do this so that employees are managed fairly, are well-trained, supported, and assigned job duties to accomplish City business goals in a cost-effective, efficient and safe manner. Along with human resource services, we also provide human resource tools, expert assistance and information to our internal and external customers.

People are the City of Seattle's greatest asset. The Seattle Department of Human Resources is responsible for centrally setting the pace for human resources services: identifying, hiring, and retaining our dynamic, diverse workforce as well as developing and administering our compensation and benefits program to create a quality employee experience.
